Take the Google Phone and go to the Google Voice website buy entering www.google.com/voice and sign in using a Google account. Without a Google account the site will prompt to create one. At this time users will be prompted to choose whether they want a new Google Voice number or to enter an existing number. Choose the option for a new number. Search for the new Google number in the menu and once done click Continue. Choose a Google Voice PIN to use to retrieve messages and access Google Voice settings from any phone. Enter a forwarding phone number if desired and select a type from the Phone type drop-down menu. Verify the phone. Then continue with the rest of the Google Voice website instructions.

The Outgoing Settings should say, SMTP server is smtp.gmail.com, Port 465, Security type is SSL always. And it is done, the Google phone is set up with Gmail.
